The people

Hans Lavdal JakobsenManaging director and developer, M.Sc. Robotics
Hans is the original founder and programmer of EarMaster. He developed the idea of EarMaster and created the great ear training program we know today. He plays the piano, mainly jazz and gospel music, and plays at various Gospel events in the area where he lives. Quentin NicolletSales & Marketing manager, M.A. English and European Studies
Quentin from France is taking care of EarMaster's marketing, distribution and customer/sales support. When he's not at the office, he is recording music and playing concerts with his Metal bands in which he plays guitar. Even though his favourite musical genre is Metal - mostly black, as in coffee - he also likes Rock, Gipsy Jazz, Blues, Classical music, and Johnny Cash. |

Martijn BosmaSoftware developer, M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence
Martijn comes from the Netherlands, but has lived many places including Germany and Sweden. Now in Denmark, he has joined our team to work on the development of EarMaster 6 and future releases. In his spare time, Martijn is working on making a smashing dance floor filler, listens to reggae and commercial dance music, and watches British comedy shows. He used to play bass in a Ska band during most of the 90's, and plays a bit of piano. He made a big impression at the office by biking to and from work along the ocean side in a raging snowstorm! |

 |
Piotr KarasinskiSoftware developer, M.Sc. Computer Science
Piotr, from Poland, always wanted to be an astronaut, but he became a programmer instead. He tries to play guitar and bass, sometimes making home recordings of his attempts. Piotr listens mostly to rock/metal music, ranging from post-rock through progressive metal to mathcore, and enjoys a little bit of jazz flavor too. He tends to address people as "dudes".

Duncan ParsonsSoftware developer, B.Sc. Psychology
Duncan is from Great Britain and joined our team in 2011. He is mainly a drummer, but he also plays guitar, piano, mandolin. He has been teaching drums for over 15 years and produced music for theater and video. In the early 2000s, he started writing audio software as a hobby (VST plugins). He has since had his work published in a number of well-known music magazines. His musical tastes lean mostly towards Progressive Rock (Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Stackridge, King Crimson, Family, etc), but any musical creation can raise his interest if it moves him. Duncan not only brought with him his great spirit and coding expertise, but he also started a tea-drinking trend at the office. |

The office
Our office is in northern Århus in Denmark. Located in northern Europe, Denmark is a small country of 6 million people. The office building is right next to the beautiful Egå yachting marina, where fresh air and a nice view of the sea can make you regain your strength during workbreaks. Our work environment is quite relaxed. That means: no suits and ties, and a bit of fun and music is always welcome.
The EarMaster history
The EarMaster history goes back to 1992, where founder Hans Jakobsen was preparing for conservatory training. He seriously needed to develop his musical ear fast, but could not find any effective ear training tools. These circumstances paved the way for the foundation of EarMaster.
Hans came up with the idea of using computers for ear training, and by 1994 he had developed the first software program for ear training - a simple program primarily intended for music students. In 1996 the first edition of EarMaster saw the light of day. EarMaster not only addressed music students, who shared similar experiences, but now all musicians could benefit from our program - and from their own musical ear!
Starting up more than a decade ago with a DOS-based program and now having, in our opinion, the best ear training software in the world - translated into 23 languages and distributed globally - tells us that a lot of ears need us!
