Earmaster Pro 5 freezes on OS X Lion

Postby arcadiadiv » May 23, 2012 8:41 pm

I'm having a problem here. I can't run earmaster pro 5 on my macbook pro. It freezes a few seconds after clicking on the app. I do have admin privileges and I have it running in read & write mode but the app still freezes before it finishes loading. I do have my copy registered and it was on my windows computer. I would check to see if I have the latest version installed but I'm unable to due to the fact that it freezes during the loading process.

btw, I emailed support 2 days ago but I haven't received a response and I really don't want to go backwards on my ear training.

Hi,

All emails sent to support are answered within 24 hours, so I assume you have already obtained an answer by now.

The problem you are describing is usually caused by the following:

1) Your Mac has not been rebooted in a long time. Fix: Reboot the Mac

2) The program has not been installed properly and/or you are running it from the installer (.dmg file). Fix: Follow the installation instauctions described in our FAQ:

When you download EarMaster, you get an image file (white hard disk icon named EarMaster). When you double-click on that file, a pop-up window will show. You then have to drag the EarMaster icon over to the Applications Folder shortcut, following the arrow.

EarMaster will then be installed into your Applications folder. Once this is done, you can unmount the image file by clicking on the "Eject" icon next to it in the finder, and delete it or save it for later use.

EarMaster should only be started from your Applications folder or from the Dock. To place EarMaster on your Dock, simply drag the EarMaster icon from your Application folder to the Dock.

3) Make sure you have the latest build. You can download it on www.earmaster.com/download/ (the trial version becomes a full version as soon as your serial number is entered).

I still haven't received a response from support. I've tried those steps but it still doesn't work.

I got it working. It was caused by pro tools incompatibility issues with lion. I removed the digidesign plugins under library-audio-midi drivers and it worked like a charm. It might be worth keeping in mind just in case other people decide to install protools.

I should probably also say that the version of pro tools this happens to is le 8. Figured I'd say just in case.

Thank you for telling us. Perhaps the PT MIDI drivers were taking over all MIDI and audio on the system, causing EarMaster and other MIDI-dependent applications to crash.

We have not received any email regarding the problem you describe in your original post. Are you sure you sent it to support (at) earmaster.com?

I looked to make sure and I did send it to that email address. In any case, I don't need any more help. The problem is gone.
