What is the best way to do melodic Dictation?

Post by anthonympm » Mar 22, 2019 3:39 pm

Hi! So I just want to say I love earmaster, I've been using it for close to a year now and it has helped loads. Anyways, my question was how EarMaster recommends doing the Melodic Dictation exercises. Dictation is a unique exercise as you can get 100% on every single question just through comparing your version with the original before submitting.

So, should I try to only listen to the question once (seems really hard on 2 bar questions with eighth notes), or should I instead be working towards doing these questions faster? I feel I need some sort of clear goal/feedback to strive towards and the % correct just doesn't really provide that unless I am going purely off of memory.

Thanks!

I have a couple of ideas for this.

1)You could limit the number of times that you could play back the question. If 1 time seems unreasonable, then set it to 2 (or more) times.
2)You could set a time limit for answering each question.

I would experiment with a combination of these 2 things.
