I feel like I'm going backwards

Post by theTrueKernel » Sep 22, 2021 5:14 pm

I am at Beginners 14:6 and keep getting worse it seems at hearing thirds. I have been a guitarist forever, I gig and can learn songs by ear. But it is obvious to me that my achilles heel is hearing thirds. It is discouraging. Can anybody offer some help or support in getting over my hurdle?

I am a guitarist too, and I actually sometimes still have doubts whether I'm hearing M3 or m3 - especially if I'm tired. The confusing part is that when played descending, m3 sounds like the first note of a Major triad played in descending arpeggio, and vice versa.

Have you tried our Interval Song Chart Generator? It's a list of famous songs that you can use as references to remember intervals. It helps me anytime I am in doubt. For example for m3 ascending, I use Sally's Song form the Nightmare Before Christmas, Black Sabbath's Iron Man or Greensleeves.

You will find it here: https://www.earmaster.com/products/free-tools/interval-song-chart-generator.html
