How is "Ambitus" different from "Interval range"

I see that Ambitus must always be the same or greater than the interval range, and I'm confused. Googling it I see that Ambitus is taken to mean "range", so how is that different from "interval range"?

Hi,

"Largest interval" is the biggest tonal distance between 2 consecutive notes, whereas "Ambitus" is the distance between the lowest and the highest notes of the melody.
