I'm just about to start using EarMaster at our school (as a teacher with about 100 students). I'll problably have more thoughts within a few weeks, but I have one now. I haven't read the whole thread, so this might have been mentioned before...

I would like to be able to create specific examples to be used in an exercise (reading of rhythm, notation of rhythm and melodi). I'm not quite satisfied with the auto-generated rhythms (sometimes really strange notation appears, that would never appear in "the real world"). If I were able to create specific exercises, I could fine-tune it to meet exactly what my students are working on.

It seems I'm kind of late here but I have a small request to the sight reading feature you guys are developing for EM 6. Please enable an exercise where you identify chords on the staff which are open-voiced with randomly generated duplicate notes in mixed order (and an option to set the limit of total notes in a chord as well). Music is seldom in such perfect and orderly closed-voice. Being able to input my answer with a midi keyboard would be awesome!

EarMaster 5 already have an open voice option, which you can choose in the customized exercise. Is that what you are looking for?

Sort of. If I'm not mistaken, the chord customization exercise you're talking about is for hearing identification. I'm thinking of something similar but through sight identification ;-)

Yes, that's right. It is the Chord identification exercise. We consider a chord reading exercise in a future version of EarMaster.

EM 6 wishlist

Can you add the option to play intervals more quickly? Also add melodic dictation to transcribe chords and melody? Also in melodic dictation - make it so we have to imput the correct value of notes instead of just inputting them as all whole notes? Add sight-reading with single and counterpoint lines?

Thank you for your suggestions. Some of them are however already possible with EarMaster:
1) You can increase the tempo at the bottom of the screen. This also works in the interval section.

2) When you use customized exercise you can set the melodic dictation exercise to use "Rhythm", which requires you to answer with the correct note values too.

The other suggestions about transcribing chord and melody, and to add sight reading, are features we plan for future versions.

Best regards,

In EM6 can you make it so that in the Tutor version you have the option of using the correct value of notes in Melodic Dictation?

Do you mean that it should be possible to have melodies where the user must enter note values (rhythm)?

Can you add the option for counterpoint in melodic dictation with two line or more in EM6? Also for melodic dictation option have chords and melody play together, so we have to figure out the hamony and melody together?

The melodic dictation is being enhanced to a large extent, but we can reveal what our plans are in details :-)
