well, all the customizing options are to be found in exercise setup in the Exercise Settings menu (In the Customized Exercise mode)
You can choose to only have the last chord played in root position
This sounds really strange...What OS do you have and where did you download your update from?
What is the error message you get (precisely)? And where/when does that aknowledgement appear?
I know it's a lot of questions but I'm just trying to understand what you are talking about....

Windows audio applications require powerful hardware to work perfectly on Mac, so you may experience a little latency. But if your mac is Intel-powered and brand new it should work fine I guess....
