Custom chord progressions?

Post by rjfaulknier »

Is there any way to create custom chord progressions? I go to school for music and every semester we have to learn specific progressions for ear training. Most of these can be found in the custom exercises tab but some are not. Would there be any way to create my own?

As far as I know, the Custom Exercises tab lets you choose from the progressions already available in the program, but it doesn’t currently allow users to build completely new chord progressions from scratch. I’ve run into the same limitation when trying to practice some of the classical cadences my teacher assigns.

You can create your own chord progressions up to 8 chords, but for now this option is only available in the version for Windows and Mac, not on iOS and Android. You create progressions by opening the Music Library (FILE menu at the top of your screen) at the Chord Progressions section:
  1. Add a new progression
  2. Select the number of chords for your new progression
  3. For each chord, select a step and a quality
If you need a chord type that isn't available in EarMaster, you can add it to the Music Library in the Chords section first, then it will be available in custom Chord Progressions.
