Hi everyone, I’m new here and just downloaded EarMaster. I’ve never really done formal ear training before, so I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the exercises and options.
I’m not sure where to start—should I focus on intervals first, or try some rhythm exercises too? Also, is it better to do short daily sessions or longer sessions a few times a week?
Any advice from beginners or experienced users would be really helpful! Thanks in advance.

Beginner Question: Best Way to Start Ear Training in EarMaster?
Just starting my ear training journey! Excited to learn one note at a time.
Re: Beginner Question: Best Way to Start Ear Training in EarMaster?
Welcome! I would suggest that you complete the Beginner's Course to start with. It will take you through all the fundamentals of ear training and music theory. It follows a well-structured progression made by a very well regarded music professor who was, at the time he designed the course, teaching at a University in Illinois. After the Beginner's Course, you could consider trying the Solfege Fundamentals course if you would like to become proficient in movable-do solfege, or the general workshops.

Welcome! Starting with interval exercises first is usually the best approach because it helps build your listening foundation, and then you can gradually add rhythm practice as you get more comfortable.

Re: Beginner Question: Best Way to Start Ear Training in EarMaster?
I was in the same situation when I first started. What worked best for me was following the Beginner's Course instead of jumping between different exercises. The lessons are organized in a logical order, so you don't have to guess what to practice next.
I also found that 15–20 minutes of practice every day was much more effective than doing one or two long sessions each week. Once I became comfortable with intervals, I started adding rhythm exercises, and that felt much less overwhelming.
The most important thing is to stay consistent and not worry about making mistakes. Ear training takes time, but you'll notice steady improvement if you practice regularly. Good luck on your journey!
