Notation of rythm

Post by marcusg » Nov 24, 2010 2:33 pm

I've just tried out EarMaster in our school, and we'll most likely place an order for school and pupils tomorrow. I haven't tried out everything yet, but it's promising enough. One thing I noticed yesterday, something that really surprised...

Randomly tried a rytm-excercie, and stumbled upon this one: a piece in 9/8, but the notation is so incorrect I couldn't read it - 9/8 should be grouped 3+3+3! For readabilitys sake, it's not allowed to use a half note value (as in the beginning and end of bar two). Why is EarMaster producing a notation like this?

You are right. The half note does not belong in the 9/8 measure.
EarMaster uses the note values chosen for the lesson, so when you define your own lessons, this will not happen.
I found that some of the lessons in the standard tutor included the half note by mistake, so it must be one of those lessons you have seen. We will remove the half note from those lessons with the next update of EarMaster.
