EarMaster 6 crashes on Windows 7

Post by mbmsv » Nov 14, 2012 10:39 pm

I am running a trial version of EarMaster 6 Pro. It crashed on me several times, I believe every time in the middle of the Module 2, lesson 2.

Just before it crashes it starts making noise, which sounds like a very short infinite loop. My hardware is a Dell XPS8300 desktop.

I tried including the problem signature from the error pop-up into this post but the forum software wouldn't take it for some reason. I will try to add it as a separate post.

Try to increase the "Buffer size" in the EarMaster Program settings (on the MIDI devices tab). This might solve the problem, if not, please contact support directly so we can find out what goes wrong.

You message with the Problem signature seems to be rejected because it looks like spam.

I increased the buffer to 1024 and it seems to have helped. I guess the proportionally increased delay might be in issue in more advanced exercises but for now I don't care

Which activity were you using when it crashed?

I was doing comparison of the minor and major 2nd descending. I would listen to each of the intervals multiple times.

I had this crash at the same lesson using Win 8 and with my netbook
(i.e. it has low CPU and memory resources). Using all default settings of EM 6.

I did not try to reproduce it yet though.

Hi,
If changing th ebuffer size doesn't help, i.e. if the resources available on your computer are not sufficient to use the soundfont playback device, then please select the Microsoft GM/GS driver in TOOLS-->MIDI DEVICES-->MIDI Out. The resources needed to run the MS GM/GS are minimal, so even though the sounds will be of a lesser quality, the performances will be highly increased.
