Thank you for your suggestion. Chord dictation is pure music theory and that might be included some day, but first of all we focus on exercises that include sound. This means either to identify what was played or play what you see (sight reading).

Yes this is the correct approach. After some time of practice you no longer need to sing and count the tones from the root, as you will be able to hear the scale steps immediately.

It is very common to write intervals as harmonic intervals even when they are played melodic. Only when the interval is a part of a melody the notes should always be transcribed next to each other.
